'Mischianza Cythara,' archaic Italian for 'cittern medley,' is Vince's first recording of exclusively instrumental cittern music. Inspired by an experiment in how historically accurate a folk-trained musician can be, every note on it is documented from the English, French, and Italian solo repertoires for the cittern and archcittern. The sources for the pieces include Adrien Le Roy's "Breve et facile instruction pour apprendre la tablature" and "Second Livre de Cistre," Paolo Virchi's "Il Primo Libro di Tabolatura di Citthara," Anthony Holborne's "Cittharn Schoole," Thomas Robinson's "New Citharen Lessons," and the Matthew Holmes cittern manuscript (Cambridge Ms. Dd 4.23).
